Borderland marks a fresh creative era for Amorphis, serving as their first album produced in collaboration with renowned Danish producer Jacob Hansen. After a successful trilogy of albums with Jens Bogren, the band embraced the opportunity to explore new sonic territory—and Hansen’s diverse experience and calm, idea-driven approach made him the perfect fit for guiding that evolution.
True to their identity, Amorphis continues to deliver a rich blend of progressive, folk, and melodic metal layered with deep lyrical themes. Once again, long-time collaborator Pekka Kainulainen provides the lyrics, which explore humanity’s enduring confrontation with destruction, death, and inner resilience—drawing inspiration from ancestral myths and the strength of the human spirit. The album’s striking visual aesthetic comes from acclaimed Dutch artist Marald Van Haasteren.
