Although all the ex-Beatles have issued Christmas music over the years, Ringo Starr was the first to record a whole album of Holiday songs. Consisting of both Christmas standards and new compositions, I WANNA BE SANTA CLAUS is a fun collection, with all the tracks having a distinct 'Beatles' sound and feel to them (Starr's 1998 release, VERTICAL MAN, comes to mind as well). While the standards ("White Christmas" and "The Little Drummer Boy") are charming, it's the originals ("Come On Christmas, Come On," "The Christmas Dance," "Pax Um Biscum," "Christmas Eve," and the title track) that are the most enjoyable. In addition, Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry and Eagles bassist/singer Timothy B. Schmidt show up for yuletide cameos.
