Lemma [CD]

Inspired by the Showa-era modernist literature of Midori Ozaki and Chika Sagawa, which rejected romanticism, the album features arpeggios reminiscent of ripples on the surface of water. The songs, which sway and then fade away, leave only the resonance of the lyrics, not the music. Beautiful, sampling-like noises are interwoven, and the silence expands. This collection of music, simple yet ethereal, is nonlinear and evocative of a seventh sense. It includes a cover of Mishio Ogawa's 'Denki,' a paean to imperfect pop with a baroque attention to detail, and alternates between the films of David Lynch and Wim Wenders. The album title, 'lemma,' derives from the overlapping meanings of the mathematical term 'lemma' and the Buddhist term 'intuitive understanding.'-The theme is 'recollection' and 'the unity of multiple personas.'
