Brooklyn podcaster Ben Manalowitz (B.J. Novak, who wrote and directed) came to West Texas at the behest of the family of Abilene Shaw (Lio Tipton), an aspiring singer and occasional hookup found dead in an oil field. The Shaws weren't buying the cops' conclusion that it was just an O.D., and Ben's choice to pry into the case-and get some broadcast material-takes some absurdly bizarre turns.
