In 1972 when Planxty recorded this their first album Irish music all at once moved in an extraordinary and excitingnew direction! The magnificent body of traditional music compiled over many centuries changed it's wardrobe and soon wasclothed with new harmonies and rhythms bred of cross breading with input from contemporary constructs, foreign cultures,and instruments never before employed in the music like bouzouki, mandolin, and even hurdygurdys.The young brilliant musicians and singers who came together to form Planxty had already made a name for themselvesbefore - Andy Irvine, Liam O'Flynn, Donal Lunny, and Christy Moore.
