Previously unreleased for more than three decades, Live at The Cornerstone, Vol. 2 captures alto saxophonist Joey "G-Clef" Cavaseno leading a formidable quartet featuring pianist Richard Wyands, bassist William Ash and drummer Kenny Bolds at The Cornerstone in Metuchen, New Jersey, circa 1995. Drawn from a portable Sony DAT recording made during Cavaseno's years on the New York - New Jersey jazz scene, the set reflects the working repertoire and musical relationships of the period, with tributes to Duke Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie and the bebop tradition alongside blues and standards. Cavaseno and Wyands were fellow members of the Illinois Jacquet Big Band and also worked together with Panama Francis, while Bolds was a longtime musical associate and veteran of the Lionel Hampton and Jacquet bands.Preserved for decades as a stereo recording, the original DAT was revisited using modern stem-separation and restoration technology, allowing Cavaseno to reconstruct, remix and remaster the performance with unprecedented clarity while retaining the atmosphere and spontaneity of the original live recording.Live at The Cornerstone, Vol. 2 is more than a rediscovered gig tape-it is a document of four jazz musicians at work, recovered from the archives and finally heard as never before.
