Augustin Dumay presents a milestone recording dedicated to Johannes Brahms, featuring the Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 77 paired with the Horn Trio in E-flat major, Op. 40. For the acclaimed violinist, this recording marks the culmination of a lifelong relationship with Brahms. Dumay first performed the concerto's finale at age 13 to win his First Prize at the Paris Conservatoire, and later received pivotal encouragement from Herbert von Karajan, who praised his natural grasp of Brahms' grand dramatic discourse. Having chosen to wait until age 77 to record this masterwork, Dumay brings a lifetime of musical maturity and reflective depth to the score. Joined by conductor Eliahu Inbal and London's Philharmonia Orchestra, the performance highlights the deep symphonic dialogue between soloist and orchestra. Complementing the concerto is Brahms's evocative Horn Trio, Op. 40, captured at Berlin' Teldex Studio.
