Consolation is Alexander Vounelakos's debut album and consists exclusively of his own compositions for solo piano. The works are primarily classified as 21st-century contemporary European jazz. They combine elements of modern jazz harmony with influences from classical music-particularly late Romanticism and Expressionism-as well as rhythmic and melodic impulses from flamenco. This fusion gives rise to a unique musical language that brings tradition and the present into dialogue with one another in a personal way. Alexander Vounelakos is an Austrian jazz pianist with Greek roots. Born in 2003 and raised in a musically inclined family, he was exposed to a wide variety of musical traditions from an early age.In classical music, he feels a particular affinity for late Romanticism and Expressionism. Composers such as Sergei Rachmaninoff, Sergei Prokofiev, and Igor Stravinsky shape his harmonic thinking as well as his tonal imagination.
