Goodnight Grief (Bonus Tracks) [CD]
This is the debut work by Sapporo-based pianist Hiroko Nakahata. Influenced by Ryo Fukui and Stanley Cowell, her music is filled with refreshing beauty and contemplative depth. This is the long-awaited debut album from Sapporo-based pianist Hiroko Nakahata. Nakahata has been actively performing at venues such as Slow Boat, a jazz live house run by Ryo Fukui. Her sincere yet unconventional musicality is profound and refreshing, captivating listeners of all ages and genders. It's no wonder she has garnered such widespread support from musicians of all ages and genders. This self-produced album features a talented lineup of musicians: Yasushi Yamashita (el-bass, keys), Ittetsu Takemura (drums), and Kenji Furudate (guitar, vocals). Varying between solo, duo, and trio arrangements, Nakahata vividly weaves together Stanley Cowell's 'Equipoise,' George Cables' 'Helen's Song,' and Mary Lou Williams's 'Baby Man. ' Above all, Nakahata's original songs 'Our Secret Spot in Heaven' and 'Goodnight Grief,' written with a clear and supple touch, make this album particularly extraordinary. They are not just beautiful, but also highly narrative songs that seem to contain both light and shadow. The album is diverse, ranging from covers to originals, but it is a work that is persuasive and has a single, unshakeable thread. This is awork of great significance and appeal that should be listened to not only by traditional jazz listeners, but also by those interested in rare groove and spiritual jazz.
