Death has always been an unwelcome but integral component of inspiration for Mike Newman. The music he makes as Summerbruise-which he started as a solo project in 2015 and which has since blossomed and bloomed into a fully-fledged band of close friends. The result is a set of songs-recorded at producer Nick Starrantino's Dead End Studios in Long Island-that play tug-of-war between Newman's own quirky vulnerability and the steady guiding hand of his musical co-conspirators.
