Speed of Light in Slow Motion is the debut album of the Matthieu Michel Trio, bringing together trumpeter Matthieu Michel, double bassist Patrice Moret, drummer and electronic musician Christophe Calpini, with Blaise Caillet on electronics. Moving fluidly between acoustic improvisation and electronic sound, the music is shaped by space, texture, silence and subtle transformation. Melodies emerge and dissolve, rhythms shift almost imperceptibly, and electronic elements become part of an ever changing sonic landscape.At the heart of the album lies a compelling tension between movement and stillness, structure and freedom. Matthieu Michel's lyrical trumpet moves from fragility to intensity, Patrice Moret's double bass provides depth and balance, while Christophe Calpini's drums and live electronics connect the acoustic and electronic worlds. Developed from electronic instrumental pieces created by Blaise Caillet and Calpini, the music offers a framework in which composition and spontaneous interaction continually reshape one another.
