Saskia Giorgini explores the late piano works of Franz Liszt in a programme shaped by personal loss, exile and religious faith. The three Odes funebres, written in the wake of family tragedies, sit alongside Hungarian folksongs, Abschied and a selection of late miniatures, including Sunt lacrymae rerum, Schlaflos! Frage und Antwort and Wiegenlied. Written during the final decades of Liszt's life, these works reflect his preoccupation with mortality and spiritual questions, while revealing a musical language that moves beyond the conventions of Romanticism.
